Oak Lodge School is a Good School (OFSTED 2016) with an Good residential provision, for students aged 10 -19 who are D/deaf and/or who have speech language and communication needs. There are 15 residential placements (weekly boarding).

Oak Lodge is in the Borough of Wandsworth but takes in students from across London. It is situated near to both Wandsworth and Clapham commons with good transport links. Parking is available on-site.

The school follows a student-centred multi-modal approach to communication. We would like to welcome you to become part of our vibrant and innovative learning community. We would like all our staff to be able to communicate by signing. If you do not currently have this skill at BSL Level 2, then the school will assist with training.

We are a secondary school for pupils who are D/deaf or have hearing, speech, language or communication needs. Our pupils communicate using BSL, SSE and speech. We want to recruit an evening receptionist / telephonist / administration assistant to handle out of hours calls and visitors, as well as providing administration support.

We need someone who can:
• Greet guests and visitors and make them feel welcome in a positive and friendly manner.
• Monitor people attending evening classes and meetings
• Work on a switchboard co-ordinating calls and prioritising work.
• Use Word, Excel and PowerPoint to a good standard. SIMS knowledge would be useful.
• Perform clerical duties and office procedures.
• Promote a positive image of the School.

You will need to:
• be punctual, presentable and friendly;
• have excellent communication skills;
• have recent experience of using a telephone switchboard;
• be able to use outlook for sending and receiving email;
• Knowledge of British Sign Language a distinct advantage

SCHOOL ADMIN OFFICER – PUPILS

We are looking to add a reliable, hard-working, self-motivated, friendly and flexible person with good SIMS skills to our admin team. Good team work is essential as well as the ability to work alone on your own initiative.

As part of the admin team you will be responsible for pupil records. To do this you will need –

SENIOR RESIDENTIAL WORKER

Phoenix House Residential Service forms an integral part of the school. We provide accommodation for a maximum of fifteen young people aged 11 -19 years.

Phoenix House is looking for a Senior Residential Worker to provide support for students with a wide range of needs and communication methods. The students reside in Phoenix House for 1-4 nights a week and staff are required to undertake limited sleep-in duties to facilitate this.

Staff must be able to work shift hours, on rota, as required. A working day currently falls between the hours of 7am – 9am and 1pm – 10.30pm. We are looking for a Senior Residential Worker that has excellent communication skills, with a good knowledge of d/Deafness, communication difficulties, challenging behaviour and Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

Communication Support Workers

Starting: Immediate start
Main purpose of job: To support Sixth Form Students both on-site and off-site.
Grade: SO1 30 – 31
Actual Salary: £27,020 – £27,775 TTO
Full / Part Time: Full-Time, 36 hours per week, 39 weeks a year  

The Sixth Form Communication Support Worker (CSW) will need to work flexibly to meet the requirements of Sixth Form staff and students. They will be expected to work both on-site in the school and off-site with our external providers and Work Related Learning partners. There will be occasional evening meetings which the CSW will need to attend. There will also be college enrolment dates whereby the CSW will be expected to support students during the enrolment period.

The role of the CSW is to enable deaf students to access, as fully as possible, the curriculum. Their post will involve interpreting for staff and students. The CSW will also be required to offer other forms of communication support, e.g. note taking, examination support and translating written English to BSL and BSL to written English.

You must have a minimum of BSL level 3. You will need to have GCSE English and Mathematics (grade C or above), or equivalent in Literacy and Numeracy. Experience of work in the FE sector is desirable.
